SUBFLOOR & SITE
PREPARATION

A beautiful floor depends on what’s underneath it. Before installation, we evaluate the existing surface and prepare the area as needed. Uneven areas, moisture concerns or other subfloor conditions should be addressed before new flooring is installed.

FLOOR INSTALLATION

Once the area is properly prepared, the flooring is installed according to the requirements of the material and the conditions of the space. We pay attention to board placement, transitions, edges and other details that affect how the finished floor looks throughout the room.

FINAL INSPECTION & CLEANUP

When the installation is complete, we inspect the finished floor and surrounding areas, address any final details and clean the work area before the project is considered complete.

How long does hardwood floor installation take?

A straightforward hardwood installation may take a few days, while larger projects or floors that need removal, leveling, subfloor repair or other preparation take longer. The timeline depends on the project size, existing flooring, subfloor condition and installation method. We give a realistic schedule after evaluating the project.

Do I need to be home during floor installation?

No. You do not need to be present during every part of the installation. We recommend being available at the beginning for final questions and again when the work is complete. If an important decision comes up during the project, we contact you rather than making an assumption.

What type of hardwood flooring is best for my home?

There is no single hardwood floor that is best for every home. Species, hardness, grain, plank width, stain, lighting, pets, children, traffic and maintenance expectations all affect the right choice. We help compare those factors before the final material is selected.

How should I care for newly installed hardwood floors?

Vacuum or sweep regularly, clean spills promptly and avoid excessive water or harsh cleaners that are not intended for hardwood. Furniture pads help prevent scratches under chairs and other movable pieces. Care can vary by finish, so we explain the maintenance recommendations for the floor we install.

Can hardwood flooring be installed over an existing floor?

Sometimes. The existing surface must be stable, reasonably level and appropriate for the installation method. In other situations, removing the old flooring is the better option. We inspect the existing floor first and explain whether it can remain or should be removed.

We bought a place with carpeted bedrooms and existing engineered floors. The existing floors can’t be matched. Russell showed us hardwood, engineered and vinyl to replace the carpets, and we agreed on engineered because it matched better. He suggested installing it lengthwise in the room because then it wouldn’t look like we were trying to match the flooring exactly when we couldn’t. And he suggested gluing it, which really stands out as better in comparison to the existing floating floor. Installation was perfect, as shown by a complete lack of complaints after 4 months. The pricing was good, the work done quickly and completely. No complaints, only a positive recommendation. As a note, we were referred to Russell by our daughter, who is similarly pleased with the work done in her house over a year ago. So a double recommendation!
