Family-Owned Flooring Experience You Can Count On

Precision Hardwood Flooring is a family-owned and operated flooring company serving homeowners throughout Bergen County, NJ, Rockland County, NY, and
nearby communities.

We provide hardwood floor sanding and refinishing, repairs, new installations, stairs and handrails, deck restoration, and additional flooring solutions for different areas of the home.

Every project begins with the same basic question: What does this floor actually need?

A scratched or outdated hardwood floor may still be in good enough condition to refinish. Individual damaged boards may be repairable without replacing the entire room. In other situations, new flooring may provide the more practical long-term solution.

We inspect the existing conditions, discuss the available options, and explain what can realistically be achieved before the work begins.

This review is about 4 months after the work. I find waiting more helpful because I’ve lived with the floors. Which are great. We bought a place with carpeted bedrooms and existing engineered floors. The existing floors can’t be matched. Russell showed us hardwood, engineered and vinyl to replace the carpets, and we agreed on engineered because it matched better. He suggested installing it lengthwise in the room because then it wouldn’t look like we were trying to match the flooring exactly when we couldn’t. And he suggested gluing it, which really stands out as better in comparison to the existing floating floor. Installation was perfect, as shown by a complete lack of complaints after 4 months. The pricing was good, the work done quickly and completely. No complaints, only a positive recommendation. As a note, we were referred to Russell by our daughter, who is similarly pleased with the work done in her house over a year ago. So a double recommendation!

A Practical Approach to Hardwood Flooring

Flooring decisions should be based on the condition of the home, not on a one-size-fits-all recommendation.

Some floors primarily have worn finishes, surface scratches, or an outdated stain color. Those conditions may be corrected through professional sanding and refinishing.

Other floors contain localized water damage, loose boards, deep stains, pet damage, or previous repairs that need to be addressed before refinishing.

When new flooring is required, the work involves more than selecting a color. The subfloor, wood species, plank width, board direction, transitions, floor height, and adjoining rooms can all affect the completed installation.

We take those details into account so the recommendation fits the actual space and the way the homeowner plans to use it.

This section demonstrates experience without explicitly stating “we are experts.”

We Do Not Assume Every Older Floor Needs to Be Replaced

One of the advantages of real hardwood is that it may remain useful long after the surface begins to look worn.

Scratches, dull finishes, and unwanted stain colors can make a good floor appear older than it actually is. Sanding and refinishing may expose fresh wood and give the floor a renewed—or completely different—appearance.

Localized damage may also be repairable. Individual boards or smaller sections can sometimes be replaced while preserving most of the surrounding hardwood.

Replacement may become necessary when damage is widespread, the flooring has too little usable thickness remaining, structural conditions affect the installation, or the homeowner wants a completely different material or layout.

We evaluate the existing floor before recommending that usable hardwood be removed.

Clear Expectations Before the Project Begins

Hardwood is a natural material, which means every board does not respond exactly the same way to sanding, stain, or finish.

Wood species, grain, age, sunlight, previous coatings, and older repairs can all influence the final appearance.

New boards may not immediately look identical to hardwood that has aged naturally inside the home for years. Floors and stair treads may also respond differently to the same stain when they are made from different wood species.

We make every reasonable effort to create a coordinated result, but we also explain when natural variation or previous conditions may remain visible.

We would rather discuss those details before the project begins than promise a result that the existing wood may not realistically allow.

This is far more natural and trustworthy than phrases such as “flawless results guaranteed.”

What We Do

Hardwood Floor Sanding and Refinishing

We sand and refinish hardwood affected by scratches, worn finishes, dull areas, and outdated stain colors. Before sanding begins, we inspect the floor for damaged boards, previous repairs, and deeper conditions that may need attention first.

Stairs and Handrails

Additional Flooring Options

Depending on the space and project requirements, we can also discuss laminate, vinyl, luxury vinyl tile, and tile flooring options.

The Finished Floor Depends on Proper Preparation

Much of the work that affects a flooring project happens before the final stain, finish, or new flooring material becomes visible.

Existing flooring may need to be removed. Damaged boards may require repair. The subfloor may need preparation, and transitions with other rooms should be considered before installation begins.

During refinishing, the surface needs to be sanded evenly and prepared for the stain and protective coating selected for the project.

Furniture, room access, stairs, pets, and drying time should also be discussed before the scheduled start date.

Proper preparation helps reduce unexpected problems and creates a better foundation for the completed work.

A Cleaner Sanding Process

Hardwood sanding creates dust, and no sanding process is completely dust-free.

We use dust-containment equipment that captures much of the dust at the source and makes the process significantly cleaner than traditional floor sanding.

The rooms still need to be prepared appropriately, and nearby belongings may require removal or protection depending on the scope of the project.

We explain what homeowners should expect before sanding begins so the space can be prepared realistically.

A Family-Owned Flooring Company

As a family-owned and operated business, the quality of our work is directly connected to our reputation.

We understand that a flooring project takes place inside someone’s home. Homeowners need clear information about the condition of the floor, the work being recommended, and what the project may involve.

Our approach is based on evaluating the space, explaining the available options, and completing the agreed flooring work with careful attention to the details that affect the final result.

We value the homeowners who recommend our company, return for additional projects, and allow us to continue serving communities throughout Northern New Jersey and Southern New York.

Questions Are Part of the Process

Homeowners often have questions about stain colors, finish sheen, dust, furniture, pets, drying time, repairs, and whether an existing floor can be saved.

Those questions should be discussed before the project begins. We explain what the work is intended to improve, which conditions may remain visible, and what responsibilities need to be confirmed before the scheduled start date.

Clear communication does not mean every hidden condition can be predicted in advance. Existing flooring can sometimes conceal damage or previous work that only becomes visible after removal or sanding begins.

When an unexpected condition is discovered, it should be reviewed before additional work moves forward.
This section helps humanize the company without inventing guarantees.

Is Precision Hardwood Flooring a family-owned company?

Yes. Precision Hardwood Flooring is a family-owned and operated flooring company serving homeowners throughout Bergen County, NJ, Rockland County, NY, and nearby communities.

Hardwood installation, sanding, refinishing, and repair are central parts of our work. Depending on the room and project requirements, we may also discuss laminate, vinyl, luxury vinyl tile, and tile flooring options.

No.

Many older floors can be repaired or refinished when the boards remain structurally usable. Worn finishes, scratches, and outdated stain colors do not automatically require complete replacement.

The floor should be inspected before determining the appropriate solution.

Often, yes.

Individual damaged boards or smaller sections may sometimes be replaced while preserving the surrounding hardwood. Matching depends on the wood species, dimensions, grain, age, and existing finish.

An exact match is not always possible.

Existing hardwood changes naturally because of age, sunlight, previous finishes, and normal wear. New boards or different wood species may respond differently to the same stain.

We make every reasonable effort to create a coordinated appearance and explain what can realistically be achieved.

No sanding process is completely dust-free.

We use dust-containment equipment that captures much of the dust at the source and makes the project significantly cleaner than traditional sanding.
